Before beginning to scissor, a groomer must learn about the different coats and how to treat them with the correct shampoo to obtain the best results for an excellent finished look. In this 5-day training course, you will gain knowledge on how to restrain hard to handle dogs, safety and sanitation, and learn the basics of how to use clippers and scissors. This intermediate course is the logical stepping-stone between the brusher-bather and Advanced Clipping and Scissoring courses.

In this 7-day course, the student gains hands-on knowledge of:
  • The selection, use and care of grooming equipment, including
    different types of shears, clippers, blades and snap on combs
  • Fluff drying with a forced air dryer.
  • Classroom lectures concentrating on the special grooming
    techniques and needs of specific breeds.
  • Promotion of a mobile grooming business

AKC standards for the individual breeds are discussed in a classroom atmosphere. The focus is on commonly groomed breeds that require a specific haircut, such as the Poodle, Cocker Spaniel, Bichon, Terrier breeds and drop coated breeds such as the Shih Tsu and the Lhasa Apso. More specific grooming techniques are covered in the Advanced Clipping and Scissoring Techniques course.

Tips are given for marketing a mobile pet grooming business including advertising, pricing and promotion.

Scissoring Techniques*:

In this 2-day advanced styling class, you will learn clipping and hand scissoring of various styles and patterns for a variety of dog breeds.

Breeds may include:

  • Drop Coated Breeds

Hands-on and written examinations are conducted to ensure groomers have learned the techniques.
